Why Scalpel Labs Tools Are Free, and How Donations Help
Scalpel Tables is free with every feature unlocked, no account, and no upsell. Donations are optional and never gate anything. They cover the cost of building and maintaining the tools, and fund the next ones, so the whole set can stay free.
Why it matters
Most browser tools have a catch. A free tier that locks away the exports. A paywall after thirty days. An account that collects your data. We built Scalpel Tables without any of that.
Every feature is available to every user from day one. No nag screen. No "upgrade now" button. No payment method on file. That freedom costs money to maintain, and donations help us keep it that way.
What "free with no limits" actually means
No pro tier. You get table detection, all export formats (CSV, TSV, Markdown, XLSX), copy to clipboard, the picker, the right-click menu, and every other feature. Nothing is hidden behind a paywall.
No account. You don't sign up, log in, or agree to terms. The extension runs entirely in your browser with no backend, no tracking, and no syncing of your data.
No limits. Export as many tables as you want, as many times as you want. Tables with thousands of rows, complex nested structures, everything works.
No upsell. The donate button lives in Settings and nowhere else. It's there if you find the tool useful and want to help. It's not shown on the main popup, not injected into your exports, not mentioned in any notification. If you don't donate, nothing changes about the extension you're already using.
What a donation pays for
Server costs for this glossary and the Scalpel Labs site. Engineering time to fix bugs, add features, and maintain the codebase. Legal and compliance work to keep the tool in the Chrome store. And it funds the next tools in the suite. Right now, the SEO, redirects, and image-extraction extensions use the same approach.
A small donation from users who find the tool valuable keeps all of this sustainable. It doesn't require venture capital, advertising, or data sales. It's how independent tools stay independent.
How Scalpel Tables shows it
Open the popup, click Settings (the gear icon), and scroll to the bottom. You'll find a short explanation of the funding model and a donate button. Click it if you want to support the work. That's the only place donations are mentioned in the extension.
